Beluga School for life 3

What started in 2005 as an aid project for tsunami orphans and people in Phang Nga, Thailand, has long grown into a small village community.  The Beluga School for Life Charity Travel offers unforgettable holidays in which all proceeds from your overnight stays, meals and activities benefit the charity project in the community.

The Beluga School For Life was founded in 2005 after the tsunami struck the southwestern coast of Thailand and many countries in Asia. The tragic event left many children with their parents.  The Bremen project and heavy lift cargo company Beluga Shipping GmbH has created an aid project for these children and their surviving relatives.  At the moment about 150 children live in the project near Khao Lak, attend the kindergarten or school there and have found a new home. The educational concept includes practically-relevant, transdisciplinary projects designed to prepare the children for their future in the best possible way.  To this end, the Beluga School for life strives for a type of tourism which is ecologically acceptable, economically sustainable as well as ethically and socially just.Beluga School for life 5

Apart from residential buildings for the children and adults, the village on the premises of a former coconut plantation includes a kindergarten as well as a school. The project also includes an amphitheater for events and performances, areas for the cultivation of fruit and vegetables, a canteen, a restaurant with kitchen and bakery and a museum.

Tourism represents the main source of income for the population of southern Thailand. The incorporation of a guest area in May 2007 into the Beluga School for Life thus suggested itself. Here, far away from the areas of mass tourism, visitors have an opportunity to get acquainted with everyday Thai culture and the residents and children of the Beluga School for Life. The guest area is an important pillar of financing for the project and provides excellent learning potential to the youths regarding the subject of sustainable tourism.

Besides accommodation, it offers a variety of educational and fun tours from a one day trip to 15-days Thailand Exploration program. It is located in the south of Thailand near many pristine beaches, colorful jungles and national parks, small dreamy islands and an impressive underwater world.
