green school IThe first ‘green school‘ is being built in the mountainous area of Doi Mae Salong in Chiang Rai Province, norhtern Thailand.

It uses local woods from nearby areas and Conwood (the wood substitute made from cement and recycled fibre), applies 10 environment-friendly principles of green building technology and utilizes natural wind in stead of air conditioning and electric fans.

It is part of the Siam City Cement Plc (SCCC)’s green school project that assists border patrol police schools.  It is also supported by with support from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. At least three green schools will be built each year during the initial period of three years. This includes a school in Chiang Mai and another one in Pran Buri in the southern province of Prachuap Khiri Khan.
