Painting (fund raising)A charity auction raised funds for the Himmapaan Foundation during the Web In Travel (WIT) Conference. The event was a part of ITB Asia, Asia’s biggest travel trade fair, which was held in Singapore recently.

A painting by Singaporean artist Sarbani Bhattacharya was auctioned off at S$1,052 at the ITB Asia Responsible Tourism Networking night, organised by My Strok@WIT. The amount was later matched by ITB Asia, making a total of S$2,104.

My Strok@WIT was a collaboration between WIT and Issu.E.Rasers, a volunteer initiative which uses creative mediums to increase people’s sensitization and action in social and environmental concerns so that individuals become “issue erasers”.

We would like to express our gratefulness for this donation. We understand that Asia’s tourism industry is going through a tough time this year due to global financial crisis and the spread of H1N1 flu. We appreciate the industry’s continued support for actions that will bring about sustainable tourism. The funds will be used in enhancing the plant nursery and developing educational workshops for our forest restoration project.
